Back to School! - Setting up a perfect homework station for your kids!

Homework StationIt is time to start thinking about getting back to school! Summer really flew by this year for us, it probably did for you as well! Besides getting prepared for school with new clothes and backpacks, we thought it might be a good idea to setup a dedicated space in your home for homework and other projects.

Here are a few tips for setting up a homework station in your home:

  • Choose an appropriate location - Placing a homework station might not be the best idea in the TV room or in another area where your child might easily become distracted. Choose an area where the child can focus. At the same time, it may be a good idea, depending on the age of your child, to place the homework station in an area near commonly occupied spaces such as the kitchen or loft area. This can help you in doing a bit of supervision and keeping the child focused.

  • Make sure your child is comfortable - Depending on the homework project, it may take a while for the child to complete it. Having a comfortable desk or workstation is important in keeping them on task.

  • Stay organized - Keeping organized will help in maintaining that nice and clean feel. This is especially true if the homework station is placed in a main area of the home. If your home is listed for sale and buyers view it regularly, make sure that the space is organized and decluttered each time someone comes for a showing.

  • If you have older kids that will use a computer, make sure that there is power available nearby to plugin.
