Licensing Authority

Each state has a division or department that is in charge of the licensing and regulating of real estate professionals. In Utah, the entity that does this is the Utah Division of Real Estate. You will learn more about the division of real estate in the Who's Who in Real Estate Lesson, but for now, it is a good idea for you to become familiar with the mission of the division.

The mission of the Utah Division of Real Estate is to protect the public and promote responsible business practices through education, licensure, and regulation of real estate, mortgage, and appraisal professionals.

The following are regulated by the Utah Division of Real Estate:

  • Real Estate Professionals (sales agents and broker licensees)

  • Appraisal Professionals

  • Mortgage Professionals

  • Timeshare, Camp Resort, and Subdivision Developments

  • Real Estate, Appraisal, and Mortgage Companies

  • Property Managers and Property Management Companies

  • Real Estate Schools

Since the Utah Division of Real Estate is the licensing authority for each of these entities, each of these entities must follow the rules and regulations of the division. Misconduct may result in the suspension, revocation, or denial of a license.
